our qos is spiky on controlling the upload throughput, where we're supposed to have total control over. sometimes when doing tests they start out at something ridiculous like 20mbps when i only have 6mbps, and lasts for over 3 seconds before it starts dropping, then drops way too far then starts trying to ramp up again, & fails to do so. when its spiking like this this is when latency goes to
Jul 19, 2016 · Advanced Quality of Service (DD-WRT QoS) controls– allows you to control your bandwidth allocation. You can easily split your traffic between networks, dedicate it to specific software, devices, and more. DD-WRT is Linux-based firmware for wireless routers and access points.Originally designed for the Linksys WRT54G series, it now runs on a wide variety of models.DD-WRT is one of a handful of third-party firmware projects designed to replace manufacturer's original firmware with custom firmware offering additional features or functionality. Recent builds of DD-WRT have you choose the 20MHz Control channel and by specifying whether the Control channel is the "upper" or "lower" portion of the 40MHz block. You may need to toggle between upper/lower to unlock the channel you wish to use. Some stock firmwares have you choose a Main and Aux. DD-WRT has been impressing users since its inception in 2005, and is the go-to alternative router firmware due to its longevity of existence and support of the largest array of devices. Consequently, DD-WRT can claim the largest community of users. It's the backbone of what we do here at FlashRouters. Bandwidth monitor in DD-WRT - useful! One great feature, especially for us Comcast customers ( who are now victim to a new bandwidth throttling scheme ) is the built-in bandwidth monitor. Just go to Status => WAN and you can see bandwidth by day and month - something I just discovered. Jul 03, 2017 · Thus, in our above example, we achieved 42,900 Kbps for our download bandwidth, and 3,980 Kbps for our upload bandwidth. Step Three: Enable QoS on Your Router. Again, for emphasis, we are using DD-WRT for demonstration purposes (because it has a robust QoS system); you’ll need to apply the general principles as applicable. Tomato let’s us monitor daily, weekly or monthly bandwidth usage, while with DD-WRT its limited only to real-time monitoring. Although DD-WRT can be made to record data for longer period of time, but you’d need external add-ons for that, which is an added hassle compared to the simplicity of the feature being inbuilt with Tomato.

Assuming you want a bit of long term visibility to diagnose who is using a lot of bandwidth over time, DD-WRT has this cool feature called rFlow which can send data to a remote server that collects it. The server choice is up to you, but I'm personnally a big fan of nTop. This blog post raves about the amount of visibility this can give you Mar 05, 2015 · In the default configuration, the DD-WRT router does not distinguish between the PCs on the LAN or the services running on the PCs. Benefits of Setting Up QoS in DD-WRT. Some scenarios where it may be beneficial to diagnose a QoS issue and consider configuring QoS in DD-WRT include: Skype calls are breaking up and/or dropping out. Jul 19, 2016 · Advanced Quality of Service (DD-WRT QoS) controls– allows you to control your bandwidth allocation. You can easily split your traffic between networks, dedicate it to specific software, devices, and more.
You can control bandwidth (up/down) on a per MAC or IP basis. This works in addition to any settings (QOS, etc) in DD-WRT. Just cut and paste the output of the program into the Firewall screen in DD-WRT and save it.
Jan 28, 2018 · In short, DD-WRT is a performance enhancing steroid for routers. In this tutorial, we will outline step by step on how to install the DD-WRT firmware so that you don’t encounter any problems in the near future. This tutorial will also ensure that you don’t end up bricking your router. There will be an incoming ethernet connection on the first LAN port, and a fibre media converter on the WAN port. I want the Archer to be a bridge but I want it to tag everything going out the WAN port. I upgraded my Archer C7 v2 to the latest version of DD-WRT but can't figure out how to do it. Any advice welcome. You are here: DD-WRT wiki mainpage / Web-GUI / NAT/QoS / QoS Quality of Service (QoS) is a method to guarantee a bandwidth relationship between individual applications or protocols. This is very handy when you max out your connection so that you can allow for each application to have some bandwidth and so that no single application can take down the internet connection. This allows, for Feb 24, 2014 · Running DD-WRT version v24-sp2 (02/19/14) std - build 23598 on a TP-Link 1043ND.
